Turks and Caicos, September 25, 2024 – An illegal vessel transporting FORTY-FIVE (45) irregular migrants was intercepted yesterday afternoon near Ambergris Cay.
Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (Specialist Tactical Operations) Mat Newton said, “Acting on information received at around 1:45 pm from the United States Customs and Border Protection Aircraft and the United States Coast Guard, a vessel was spotted. Officers from the Marine Branch, TCI Regiment and TCI Customs and Border Force were deployed.
“The vessel was intercepted transporting THIRTY-EIGHT (38) males and SEVEN (07) females. Two minors were among those held. The irregular migrants were safely brought ashore to Providenciales for processing by the Immigration Task Force.”
ACP Newton added, “Our close collaboration with Customs and Border Protection, TCI Regiment, Immigration authorities, and our international agencies has successfully disrupted illegals from entering the TCI. The coordinated efforts of all agencies need to be applauded, and their expertise, resources, and teamwork were vital to this success”.
The RTCIPF asks the public to notify the closest police station, contact 911, the Serious Crime Unit at 231-1842, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477, and anonymously give any information on illegal activity. Additionally, persons are encouraged to download the Crime Stoppers P3 app and share information anonymously.
