The theme of World Oral Health Day 2024 is ‘A Happy Mouth is A Happy Body’. World Oral Health Day (WOHD) is observed on 20 March every year. The day is dedicated to spreading awareness about the importance of good oral health for people’s overall health and well-beingIn recognition of World Oral Health Day 2024, the Turks and Caicos Islands Governments Dental Department would like to remind everyone on this day to give attention to your oral health. Remind yourself today of that carious lesion (visible destruction of the tooth due to decay), chipped tooth, broken restoration, tooth/teeth which needs extraction, swollen gums, bleeding gums, dental abscess, mouth ulcers, lip ulcer, tongue ulcer, scented breath, throat pain, calculus, missing teeth, and many more- that you may have been neglecting.

Oral health is linked to general health. Help to prevent these bacteria and poisoned toxins that are capable of entering your general circulation through diseased gums and/or saliva. These bacteria and toxins can associate with body systems and organs such as the brain, lungs, heart, pancreas and kidneys and can lead to Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, diabetes, obesity, colon cancer, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, increase risk for pneumonia and respiratory disease, premature pregnancy, premature death and breast cancer. Stop neglecting your Oral Health. Act now!

Remember that daily brushing, flossing, eating healthily, drinking your recommended number of glasses of water, getting your rest, avoiding sugary snacks and beverages, and visiting your dentist at least twice per year, is your first step in achieving not only good oral health, but good overall health.

Oral health begins with you and is everyone’s concern.

A healthy mouth leads to a healthy body. Health is everyone’s right. Get involved with your Oral Health.
