#TrinidadOilSpill, March 05th, 2024 – A joint investigation by Bellingcat, a Netherlands-based investigative journalism group and the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian, has revealed the owners of the tug and barge boats responsible for the oil spill in Trinidad and Tobago.  The boats are registered under Malaj Offshore Corporation, a Panama-registered company, and Melissa Rona Gonzalez, an officer of Melaj Offshore is reportedly the owner of the tug boat that reports say accompanied the barge before  it abandoned it on or around February 6th, the day before the spill was discovered by Trinidadian authorities. This spill is said to be one of the Caribbean’s worst in recent years.
