The Turks and Caicos Islands Airports Authority (“TCIAA”) is pleased to announce the appointment of DNA Workshop as the consultant architects and engineering experts for the construction of a new passenger terminal at the Clifford Gardiner International Airport, North Caicos. The selection of DNA Workshop reflects a commitment to excellence and innovation in the development of crucial infrastructure projects servicing air transportation across the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Founded by Dyke Nelson in 2012, DNA Workshop has become known for their focus on sustainable design principles, winning awards for their work throughout the United States. Their team is poised to deliver a terminal that meets the highest standards of functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability. Notably, partner engineers on the project will include Arora Engineers LLC which boasts an international client list which includes Denver International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, Singapore Changi Airport, and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. The project will also feature works from celebrity designer Kenneth Brown Design Inc, named as one of the top 100 designers by House Beautiful and Western Interiors, and boasting a client list which includes Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Rudin’s Los Angeles Flagship Showroom, and Cedars-Sinai’s Founder’s Room.

Congratulating the TCIAA for this milestone in the redevelopment of the airport, Hon. Arlington Musgrove, Minister Responsible for Aviation and Airports, and House of Assembly Representative for North Caicos and Middle Caicos  emphasized the benefits of the project, stating: “The construction of a new passenger terminal at Clifford Gardiner International Airport has been a long time coming and this good news on the engagement of experienced consultant architects and engineers marks a milestone in our efforts to not only re-open the airport in North Caicos, but to bring with it modernity and a purpose fixed on expanding North Caicos’ participation in aviation.”

The Minister further commented:”This project will not only improve the efficiency and capacity of the airport but also create new opportunities for tourism and economic development in the Twin Islands and beyond. We are confident that Dyke Nelson Architects will play a crucial role in realizing our vision for a world-class airport terminal that serves the needs of our passengers and supports the growth of our economy.”

The announcement of the appointment of architects comes almost simultaneously with the TCIAA’s embarkment on developing a Strategic Master Plan focused on guiding development and the organisation’s investments over the next 30 years across the country’s entire network of airports.

Earlier this week the TCIAA sent a delegation accompanied by a representative from the TCI Civil Aviation Authority to inspect and explore the option of coordinating training and certification of its Aircraft Fire Fighting and Rescue Service members at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport Fire Academy. In what can only be perceived as good news for North Caicos, a batch of recent recruits to service the North Caicos Airports will depart for the final component of their training at Dallas/Fort Worth.

The TCIAA also closed tender submissions on Wednesday, 21st February 2024 for the purchase of a new 4×4 Fire Truck for North Caicos. Once procurement is complete, it will increase the number of fire trucks servicing the Clifford Gardiner International Airport and North Caicos and Middle Caicos Communities via the TCIAA from one to two.
