NASSAU GROUPER SEASON TO OPENED MARCH 1, ENDS NOVEMBER 30

The Department of Fisheries and Marine Resource Management (DFMRM) is pleased to announce to all fishing interests, restaurants and the general public of the opening of NASSAU GROUPER (EPINEPHELUS STRIATUS) SEASON on Friday, March 1st, 2024 to November30th, 2024.  

 The season will open on March 1st, 2024, as is customary in adherence with the guidelines of Section 12(1A) of the Fisheries Protection Ordinance (Amendment) Regulation states: “The close season in relation to Nassau grouper shall be from the first day of December to the twenty-eight day of February (inclusive) in each year or such other dates as may, from time to time, be appointed by the Governor in the Gazette”.

Please be aware of the following season as per the Fisheries Protection Ordinance, as amended:  

  • No capture of hawksbill turtles (closed season) from 1 August to 31 March, each year; 
  • 2023-2024 crawfish (lobster) season will be closed as of March 31, 2024.

The Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources Management appeals to citizens, residents and visitors in the Turks & Caicos Islands, to familiarize themselves with and to uphold the Fisheries Regulations, and urges all responsible citizens to call the DFMRM at 1(649) 338-4171 or email fisheriesandmaritime@gov.tc to report any violations.
