#BahamasBail#JudgesCriticized, March 21, 2024- Under the recent changes to the Bahamas Bail Act, judges have decided that frequent criminal offenders who are charged are entitled to bail, getting an opportunity to be released back into society, and this has resulted in concerned Bahamians. But Former Chief Justice Bryan Moree is reported defending the decision saying, “This so called criminal is entitled to a presumption of innocence and the court must regard that person in that way…so the mere fact that you are arrested does not mean that you are to be treated as a convict.” He continued to express that if someone is charged and released and charged again somewhere down the line for a separate offense, they shouldn’t be denied bail because they were charged the first time.
