Suspects Charged with Drug and Firearm Offenses Appear in Court

#TurksandCaicosIslands, February 7, 2024 – Officers from the Serious Crime Unit of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force have brought charges against three individuals for drug and firearm-related offenses.

The accused individuals, identified as RYAN SMITH (41) from Providenciales, SHAKEME SEYMOUR (43) from Grand Turk, and JAMES FERGUSON (27) from Providenciales, were formally charged on the evening of February 05.

Mr. Smith, Mr. Seymour, and Mr. Ferguson face charges of conspiring to supply firearms and ammunition. Additionally, Mr. Ferguson faces an additional charge of conspiring to supply cannabis.

The accused made their appearance before a Magistrate on February 06 and have been remanded in custody until a sufficiency hearing scheduled for April 10.

In a concise statement, Acting Commissioner of Police Mr. Rodney Adams affirmed, “The rigorous law enforcement strategies implemented, and our continued collaboration with international partner law agencies, remains an ongoing process. The RTCIPF, in conjunction with our partner agencies, will persist in implementing robust operations to prevent and detect firearms from entering the beautiful by nature TCI.”

“I again appeal to the public to provide us with information on illegal activities by contacting 911, the Serious Crime Unit at 231-1842, or the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-8477(TIPS).”
