NEW Acting Police Commissioner for TCI hired; Martin is out sick ’til May

TurksandCaicosIslands, February 12, 2024 – In a surprise twist, the Governor announced that today (February 12), Chris Eyre will begin three month tenure as the acting Commissioner of Police in the Turks and Caicos after the man hired for the job – Edvin Martin – is unable to start work until May for health reasons.

Eyre held a role equivalent to the commissioner when he served in the UK as the Chief Constable of Nottinghamshire Police.  With 18 years in that post, Eyre led operational response to terrorist attacks, riots, major demonstrations, international criminal investigations and sensitive covert operations, said the Governor’s office.

Additionally, Turks and Caicos gets a new ACP.  Superintendent Mat Newton will be appointed as an Assistant Commissioner of Police focusing on tactical, however that too is a temporary job according to a media release from HE Daleeni Daniel Selveratnam, TCI Governor on Friday February 9.
