ILLEGAL MIGRANT LANDING AT SOUTH SALT CAY

SOUTH SALT CAY, 7th February 2024 – In the early hours of 7th February 2024, at approximately 3:00 a.m., a boat carrying migrants illegally landed at South Salt Cay. Border Force took immediate action in collaboration with the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force and other law enforcement agencies. Resources have been mobilized to apprehend those involved and gather crucial information for ongoing investigations.

The community spirit displayed by the residents of South Salt Cay has been commendable. Their valuable assistance has proven instrumental in effectively managing the situation. We express our gratitude for their vigilance and commitment to the safety and security of the community.

At the time of this statement, approximately 59 individuals had been apprehended, and one female migrant was found deceased. We recognize the potential risks posed by the presence of illegal migrants and urge all residents to continue to take necessary precautions for their safety.

Residents are advised to secure their homes and belongings, exercise caution regarding unfamiliar individuals or activities, and promptly report suspicious persons, activity, or information to local authorities through the 911 emergency hotline.

Border Force, in partnership with other agencies, will continue working tirelessly to protect the well-being of our community and maintain the security of the Turks and Caicos Islands. We stand united against any threats to our nation’s borders and prosperity.
