#RedSea, January 16, 2024 – The United States is expected to respond with force after a Monday afternoon Houthi airstrike hit a US vessel in the Red Sea.
Tensions between the US and the military group, based in Yemen, rose in the last few weeks after repeated Houthi attacks on cargo ships carrying oil.
The US had vowed that action would be taken against the rebels even before Monday’s strike, with the creation of Operation Prosperity Guardian; a multinational operation geared specifically toward responding to the threat against shipping vessels.
