#TurksandCaicos, January 9, 2023 – Father Mark Kendall has rubbed some attorneys the wrong way with his frank comments made during the legal year opening service held at St. Monica’s Anglican Church. Kendall says the conviction rate is too low: “The correlation between the occurrence of crimes and convictions is lopsided,” he expressed.
Both defense lawyers and the prosecution were held responsible for this failing by Kendall, who blamed defense lawyers for ‘finding loopholes’ to get clients off and chided the prosecution for the“insipidness of their preparation,” as part of the low conviction rate.
Some defense lawyers told MM they were frustrated by the comments, which they say insinuated that they were wrong for doing their jobs.
