#Hauge, January 16, 2024 – As the world marks 100 days since the eruption of the Israel-Hamas war, South Africa, with the support of Ireland, has brought a case against Israel to the International Court of Justice.

They alleged that Israel was committing genocide against the Palestinian people, violating the 1948 Genocide Convention.

In its response to South Africa, Israel has blamed Hamas for the high civilian toll. At least 23,000 Palestinians, including 10,000 children, have been killed in airstrikes since the beginning of the war. A decision is expected in the next few weeks.

The ICJ does not prosecute individuals, but a win for South Africa could put significant international pressure on Israel to end the current conflict.
