#TurksandCaicos, January 17, 2023 – With an additional $297,000 in the budget, the Department of Agriculture is aiming to have every single family in the Turks and Caicos growing their leafy vegetables and harvesting their eggs by next year (2025). Residents were herded toward the ambitious goal over 2023 and continuing in 2024, with the provision of not only classes in backyard farming but also the provision of tools for hydroponic farming through the business in a box initiative.
If successful, the increase would give a serious boost to the country’s exceptionally low level of food security. This week, Thursday, a two-hour training is being staged at the Life Center in Grand Turk for egg laying and hydroponics. Agriculture informs it begins at 5:30 pm.
