#Nassau, January 10, 2023 – It is Majority Rule Day for Bahamians today, January 10th. This year marks a decade since the event was declared a public holiday in 2014. The holiday commemorates a much older achievement: The Bahamas gained majority rule for the first time on January 10, 1967, under Sir Lynden Pindling. It’s a celebration of equality and justice for all Bahamians that transcends class, race, and gender, giving voting power to the majority.
