Young Bahamian school boy dies after collapsing playing basketball

#TheBahamas, October 3, 2024 – A Bahamian secondary school student died after suddenly collapsing while in a game of basketball.

Identified as Dario Rahming, Head boy of Queens College had his life cut short on Saturday September 30th.

Queens College in a facebook post gave an emotional message regarding the untimely death of Rahming that shocked so many hearts.

The College, describing him as a person of great calibre during his short life.

“He was an extraordinary young man and our hearts are broken. We ask for your prayers for his family, friends, classmates and the entire Queen’s College community. We say that when one Comet shines, we all shine. But today, one of our Comets has fallen, so we fall as well.”

Henry Knowles, the school’s principal, also has nothing short of good to say about Rahming.

“He’s smart. He’s a devout Christian. He preaches. He’s not a selfish young man. He’s well spoken. He’s humble. He’s very mannerly, and he’s caring,” the principal maitained said.

“This is a very hard moment for all of us and we’re praying for the family, you know, we’re praying for the entire staff and the Queen’s College community,” he further expressed.

Knowles informed reporters that Rahming was on campus when the tragedy struck him and that the school responded with proper protocols, as he highlighted that the staff are trained in emergency CPR; as reported by Loop.

Also, one of the school’s nurses, he said, was on the compound, “outside with a sports event and she was able to be right there in place, she came and rushed to the clinic. The ambulances were called. They came in record time, and until then, we were doing everything we could on our side,” the principal stated, as many mourn the loss.

The principal gave insight into how loved he was at school, alluding to his installation as headboy recently, where he said the school cheered him fiercely.

“I can say when he came on stage to get his tie pinned on him, the entire school went nuts. Everybody absolutely loves him. He’s an extraordinary young man. You can put him in front as a poster of what we want the young men of the nation to be, and we’re all so heartbroken because of it.”

The cause of his death is currently inconclusive but post mortem examinations are expected to clear this up.
