#TurksandCaicosIslands –  The Department of Education is pleased to celebrate the Week of the Young Child. The weeklong celebrations are geared towards raising awareness and advocating for the well-being and education of our youngest citizens. This year’s celebrations take place October 2-6, 2023 and features a series of engaging activities and initiatives aimed toward promoting early childhood development.

The Week of the Young Child is an annual event celebrated nationwide, highlighting the importance of Early Childhood Education and the critical role it plays in shaping the future of our society. Organized by the Early Childhood Unit, in collaboration with public and private preschools, this event aims to create a nurturing
environment that supports the holistic growth and development of young children.

Throughout the week, a wide range of activities will be held across the islands, catering to children, parents, caregivers, and educators. These activities include interactive workshops, storytelling sessions, art and music classes, outdoor play sessions, and community outreach programs. The events will provide opportunities for children to engage in creative expression, develop social skills, foster curiosity and build strong foundations for lifelong learning.

According to the Hon Rachel Taylor, Minister of Education, ‘The Week of the Young Child also serves as a platform to recognize and appreciate the dedication and hard work of early childhood educators and caregivers who play a vital role in nurturing and educating our children. Their tireless efforts in providing safe and stimulating learning environments deserve our utmost gratitude and support.”

We invite the entire community to join us in celebrating the Week of the Young Child and to actively participate in the various events and initiatives taking place throughout the week. By investing in the well-being and education of our young children, we are investing in a brighter future for the Turks and Caicos Islands.
