#TurksandCaicosIslands, October 19, 2023 – The Turks and Caicos Islands Airports Authority (TCIAA) has extended the prequalification process for bidders interested in the redevelopment of the Providenciales International Airport for a second time.

Now pushed to November 10, the process allows interested investors who meet certain criteria to submit bids to redevelop and run the airport for a 30 year period.

The process began in August 2023 and was to be closed off by October with the aim of wrapping up contract negotiations by March 2024.

The Turks and Caicos Islands Airports Authority (TCIAA) had explained the first extension was at the request of potential bidders. There is so far no reason shared on why there is this second extension.

Magnetic Media has also queried whether the start date for the $400 million project will be affected by the delays.

In a recent town hall meeting, TCIAA executives indicated that the bidding process was a trial run of sorts to see if the Public Private Partnership (PPP) was viable and to their liking, but maintained that they had not written off self-financing the massive project.
