#TurksandCaicosIslands, October 9, 2023 – Amidst the public argument between Trevor Botting, TCI Police Commissioner and Oswald Skippings, TCI former Chief Minister came a long-awaited and desperately needed update.
A mobile police station for Providenciales will be delivered next year.
“I am pleased to say that the new Mobile Police Control Vehicle/ Community Post will be delivered in 2024,” said Trevor Botting, Police Commissioner.
Again, he was responding to statements made by Oswald Skippings.
“Security and law and order was also deliberately reduced in Five Cays, Providenciales with the closing down of the police station in that settlement as well as in Blue Hills,” the leader politician pointed out.
While Botting admitted to the closure of the Blue Hills precinct he said this was because of ‘very few daily visits.’
In the last several years along with Kew Town, the Five Cays and Blue Hills communities have experienced a significant level of deadly violence including shootings, armed home invasions and beheadings.
Five Cays and Kew Town alone are responsible for more than a third of murders in 2023, yet neither community has a police station. The long promised mobile unit is supposed to fill this gap.
“This vehicle will allow a dedicated and highly visible presence across our communities with the Police Officers and the “going to our communities rather than communities having to come to a static Police Post,” Botting said.
The commissioner will not be around to witness the delivery though as his contract will not be
renewed and he will take his leave in November.
