Church Ceiling collapsed on Mexico, death toll rises to 11

#Mexico, October 3, 2023Tragedy struck in a church in Mexico as so far 11 people are said to have been lost following the collapse of a roof during a service on Sunday, according to local officials as reported by Jamaica Observer.

The unfortunate event occurred  in northeastern Mexico, in the town of Ciudad Madero, leaving seven dead and ten rescued but injured, as revealed by a spokesperson for the Tamaulipas state government.

Sad to say, the spokesperson added that more people are trapped in the debris of the collapsed roof and in emphasizing this, initially local media reports that at least 20 people were yet to be found.

As the ceiling came down, reports say a baptism was under celebration.

Jose Armando Alvarez, bishop of the local diocese, speaking on the incident expressed that it’s a very difficult time for them, as seen in a video on social media.

The government statement said the incident occurred in the early afternoon.
