TCI’s new Deputy Director of Planning named; 21-year civil servant

#TurksandCaicos – November 16, 2020 – The Turks and Caicos Islands Civil Service is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Toriano Williams as the new Deputy Director of the Department of Planning within the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing & Planning.

Mr. Williams began his career with the Planning Department as a Land Use Planner in October 2010 and later became the Secretary of the Physical Planning Board.  In May 2014 he was promoted to the role of Assistant Deputy Director.  Prior to his tenure with the Planning Department, he worked within the Department of Immigration as an Immigration Officer.  He has been a valued member of the Turks & Caicos Islands Civil Service for 21 years.

Mr. Williams holds a first-class Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural and Building Engineering Technology as well as a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning with honors, specializing in Planning for Environmental Change.  He is also a proud member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Williams stated; “I am pleased and honored to be afforded the opportunity to serve as the Deputy Director of Planning. This new transition would not have been possible without my exceptional team of whom I am grateful for. I intend to ensure that planning and development within the Turks & Caicos is carried out in a sustainable manner while striking a balance between human development and the environment.

“My ongoing plan is to guarantee that our team has the manpower and resources to afford a service that meets and exceeds the expectation of all who encounter the department and to make it one that is automated whereby business operations and services can conveniently be completed online.”

Deputy Governor Anya Williams in congratulating Mr. Williams on his appointment said; “It brings me great pleasure to extend congratulations to Mr. Williams on his recent promotion within the Department of Planning. Mr. Williams has taken the steady path of climbing the ranks within the Department of Planning and I trust that the experience he has gained while occupying these roles will assist him as the new Deputy Director. We wish him well and look forward to continued improvements within the Planning Department.”
