#GrandTurk, May 13, 2020 – The public is advised that on Sunday 10 May, 2020 at approximately 4:30 a.m. it was reported that the refuse collection truck in Grand Turk was on fire. The flames were extinguished at 5:28 a.m. by the Domestic Fire Services.

As this is the only Government refuse collection vehicle on the island in Grand Turk, the Environmental Health Department (EHD) will be seeking quotations from refuse collection contractors to continue collecting refuse in Grand Turk to prevent vector borne diseases outbreaks.

Residents are also encouraged to use the drop box available at the Grand Turk solid waste site.

EHD would like to thank Domestic Fire Services and other stakeholders who assisted to suppress and quickly extinguish the fire. We also would like to thank the general public for their assistance.

We wish to assure the public that we are committed to safeguarding public health while also creating an environment that is healthy and aesthetically pleasing to both residents and visitors to enjoy.

The Environmental Health Department and Ministry of Health apologizes for any inconvenience that this may cause and would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation.
