Infant and another, negative for COVID-19 says TCI Health officials
#Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands – Tuesday, 7 April, 2020: The Turks and Caicos Islands Hospital wishes to provide the general public with an update on the laboratory results received by the Ministry of Health related to recent patients (2) who met the case definition of suspected COVID-19 upon admission to Cheshire Hall Medical Centre.
The posthumous test results for a critically ill infant who passed away on 2nd April 2020 have returned as negative for the virus. The infant was in critical condition and succumbed to her illness shortly after admission to the facility.
The inpatient case was originally mentioned in a press release issued on 3rd April 2020. The release underscored that there were other medical findings, which also could have potentially accounted for the infant’s passing, and a COVID-19 infection is statistically rare in this age group. However, tests were performed out of an abundance of caution since the case definition of COVID-19 was met. The public is reminded that not everyone who meets the case definition and is tested will have the COVID-19 virus.
The family of the deceased was formally notified of the negative result. The Ministry of Health and TCI Hospital continues to extend our deepest condolences to the family on the unfortunate loss of their loved one.
The test results for a middle-aged male who was admitted to the facility with severe acute respiratory infection and had no recent travel history has returned as negative. The patient remains under hospital care in stable condition. The inpatient case was originally mentioned in a press release issued on 2nd April 2020.
