#Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands — March 14, 2020 — As a result of the global concern in relation to the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and the obvious possibility of increased risk to The Turks and Caicos Islands, the Turks and Caicos Islands Football Association (TCIFA) has decided to immediately suspend all football programmes and leagues for an initial period of 30 days. This will include the Grassroots/ Youth programmes in all islands (i.e. Providenciales, Grand Turk, South Caicos, and North/Middle Caicos), High School Girls League, Indoor Soccer Leagues, Over 35 Master’s League and Men’s Provo Premier League.

Senior and Junior National Team Training will, however, continue until a final assessment and consultations are completed. Details as to the continuation or suspension of these National Team training sessions will be announced in very short order.

During the course of this week, the TCIFA have disseminated related information to parents, guardians and stakeholders enlisting cooperation to upkeep personal and environmental hygiene. The TCIFA will continue to take into account the professional advice of the Ministry of Health, and follow-up on the readiness of the FA to resume activities.

“There are a number of factors we have to consider, including the latest developments in our country and the overall factor of COVID-19. This decision is made out of abundance of caution, and in the best interest of the health of our players, stakeholders and community. This will give us an opportunity to further assess the situation at hand and formulate the arrangement of activity resumption as appropriate,” said TCIFA General Secretary Oliver Smith.

More information will be circulated in the coming weeks.
