TCI Hospitals’ statement on sudden death of 11-year-old girl in Providenciales

#Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands — January 30, 2020 —- “An 11-year-old young girl was seen at the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre – Emergency Department on Tuesday, 28th January 2020 around 9:00 a.m. for a medical complaint.

The patient was triaged at 7:00 a.m. and seen by the emergency physician on duty thereafter. The patient was assessed and discharged from the department in stable condition with a plan of care for outpatient management and advice.

The young girl returned to the emergency department the following evening on Wednesday 29th January 2020 around 5:30 p.m. via the Emergency Medical Services ambulance unresponsive with cardiopulmonary resuscitation in progress.

The Emergency and Pediatric team were activated and continued vigorous resuscitation but unfortunately the young girl could not be revived. The parents and family were counseled and supported for their loss. Our deepest condolences are extended to the family and counseling was offered.

The matter is under review with the relevant stakeholders as to the definitive cause of the collapse of the young girl.
