Remittances on the rise in DR, over $1 million more USD this year
#DominicanRepublic, October 2019 — Remittances rise for year to date in the Dominican Republic received from January to September of this year US $ 5,292.9 million in family remittances, US $ 1,376.8 million more than in the same period of 2018, according to the Governor of the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD), Héctor Valdez Albizu .

He explained that, although the amount of remittances sent in September (US $ 566.9 MM) fell compared to August (US $ 628.4 MM) and July (US $ 640.3 MM), in total this year the revenues have been higher than the previous year.
A note published in the Daily List specifies that the majority of remittances are sent from the United States (77.5%) and Spain (10.1%).
He adds that the most benefited provinces are the National District (31.4%), Santiago (15%), Santo Domingo (9.2%), Duarte (5.4%) and La Vega (4.2%).
Central Bank statistics reveal that men receive 51.1% of remittances and women 48.9%.
68% of these shipments are delivered in dollars and 32% in Dominican pesos.
