Family wants more information on death of 61-year old Kuhnla, says details limited from TCI Police as Americans asked to exercise more caution

#Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands – October 24, 2018 – A Level Two warning is where the Turks and Caicos stands with the US State Department as it has now reiterated warnings to its citizens residing or visiting the TCI to ‘exercise increased caution’ following the deadly discovery of the body of 61 year old New York lawyer, Marie Kuhnla last week Tuesday.   

Kuhnla was visiting Turks and Caicos with friends and was a guest at Club Med Turkoise; she was found in bushes near the all inclusive resort just after 7 a.m. on October 16 (2018). “The entire Club Med family is saddened by the death of this guest and sends it deepest condolences to the guest’s friends and family.”

Initially reports focused on the solemn remarks of Marie Kuhnla’s son Rick Kuhnla Jr, which said: She was a loving, caring, compassionate woman who I was lucky to have for a mom.  If she saw someone who needed help, she would help them.  She may be gone, but the impact she had on the world and inspiration she provided most certainly is not.”

Now reports on both ABC and NBC expose that relatives and those inquiring of the investigation find that information from the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police is limited to nothing at all.  

Josh Einiger, NBC Eyewitness News NYC on Monday night said:  “The Police Department on Turks and Caicos has posted some very limited information about this case on its Facebook page; but they have not said how Kuhnla died or if they have any suspects or even a motive in this case.”

Kunhla’s brother Peter Chetuk, told Ann Thompson of NBC that:  “Authorities have told us basically nothing  and it very very frustrating for the family, very frustrating.”

Over a week later and there is still no information on how Marie Kuhnla died and as expected the speculative reports on who is responsible for the heartless crime are swirling.  Turks and Caicos residents on Monday evening, for the first time learned that the death was being investigated as a homicide; the information was shocking for many in the TCI as it came via official press release mere hours ahead of the international reports on what is the seventh murder for the year in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
