TCI: Serious Crimes Unit arrests five government workers in fake drivers’ licenses probe

#Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands – Wednesday September 26, 2018 – The Serious Crimes Unit  of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police is leading the investigation where five government employees from the Road Safety Department are being investigated on allegations of fraud.

Bail is set at $5,000 each for the five officers of the Department who were arrested on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in selling fake drivers licenses.   

It was widely believed that the Integrity Commission made the arrests, but Magnetic Media has spoken with both the Provo and the Grand Turk offices which say ‘no, it is not their investigation.’

Police just moments ago, finally confirmed their involvement and say:   “The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force Serious Crimes Unit is carrying out investigations into unethical conduct and breaches of the Laws of the Turks and Caicos Islands involving officers of the Road Safety Department in Grand Turk and Providenciales.  On Tuesday, September 25th, 2018, five officers, 4 females and one male were arrested on suspicion of Uttering Forged Documents and are currently on $US 5000 bail each.”

We are informed that three of the staffers are out of the Grand Turk office and two are from the Providenciales office.

A fake driver’s license ring is now busted up and even a local printing company has been implicated in the investigation where people were allegedly paying under the table for forged Turks and Caicos drivers licenses.
