First DUI arrest for TCI Police comes on day two of new Breathalisers law

#Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands – July 3, 2018 – TCI Police make first DUI arrest and a 42-year-old man will face charges for being three times over the legal limit, say Police in a Tuesday morning report.

Police reported that the arrest happened around 4 p.m. on Monday and stemmed from a stop on Airport Road in Providenciales. 

“A 42-year-old man was arrested July 2, 2018 around 4:00 p.m., for driving under the Influence of alcohol after the roadside device indicated that his breath alcohol content was more than three times the legal driving limit.

The man who was stopped on the Airport Road was taken to the Chalk Sound Police Station where he provided a positive sample on the evidential breath test machine which was significantly above the legal limit of 35mgs.”

The first arrest under the amendment to the road traffic laws, which now allows the use of breathalisers to measure the sobriety of drivers, comes on the second day of the law taking effect.

The Police report explains that the man was charged and later released to appear in court.
