Red Tsunami, Mighty Mia wipes out DLP for unanimous, historic win as first woman PM of Barbados

Bridgetown, Barbados, Friday May 25, 2018 – Unequivocal support for Mia Amor Mottley and the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) came in like a red tsunami on polling day, May 24, wiping out every presence of the former government from parliament; the BLP won 100% of the seats for an historic election victory.  

The results of the general election came in around 4 a.m. this morning and confirmed that the trend in votes being largely for the BLP as ballots were tallied throughout the night, were not a fluke.    

Indeed,  the party in red was the resounding choice of the electorate and the third-straight chance, asked for by the Democratic Labour Party and its leader, Freundel Stuart was out of the question for the majority of Barbadians.

It was rejection and reports are that the now, ex-Prime Minister is taking full responsibility.

The loss is catastrophic for the DLP, and could potentially be for true balance and democracy. There will be no Opposition Party members in the House of Assembly of Barbados, owing to the crushing defeat.

Prime Minister-elect Mia Mottley said this to supporters, “I want to thank you the people in particular. This victory is not mine, this victory is not the Labour Party’s.”     

The 52-year old attorney at law becomes the first woman to become Prime Minister of Barbados, and the eight leader of an independent Barbados.
