Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos Islands – March 7, 2018 – Officials are calling it a major fire and are reporting that the blaze which swallowed up five wooden homes has left over a dozen people homeless.
Police Press Liaison officer, Takara Bain issued a second update minutes to 8 a.m. and shared that: “Grand Turk Police and Fire Officials are investigating a major fire that took place on Hospital Road on Wednesday, March 7th, 2018, following a report made to the 911 Centre at 2:54 a.m. A total of five wooden dwelling homes were reportedly destroyed, leaving 14 persons displaced. EMT’s and Fortis representatives were also on scene. There were no reports of deaths or injuries.”
The fire crew, usually stationed at the JAGS McCartney International airport extinguished the fire, we are told.
TCI Social Services Department confirms that they are already involved and investigating the matter to determine what support will be offered t the families.
At this stage, there is no word on what may have caused the fire on the Capital island of Grand Turk.
