TCI Deputy Premier attends Twenty-ninth Inter-sessional meeting of CARICOM

Port-au-Prince, #Haiti – February 27, 2018 – Deputy Premier and Minister of Border Control and Employment, Hon. Sean Astwood is attending the Twenty-Ninth Inter-sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community at the Marriott Hotel, Port-au-Prince on February 26 and 27 2018.
During the two-day conference, Hon. Astwood is expected to hold Bi-laterals with several Member States’ leaders including the President of Haiti, Jovenel Moïse to discuss matters related to migration.

Key items to be addressed on the agenda of the Inter-Sessional assembly include Disaster Management and Recovery, Tourism, Regional Security, and Blacklisting and De-Risking. #CARICOM Heads of Government will also discuss the Enlargement Policy for the Community with a view to addressing applications received for Associate Membership in CARICOM.

The Heads of Governments of the 18-member body and its associate membership are also scheduled to discuss issues relating to the region’s slow recovery from the global economic crises; the heavy debt burdens of some members and the effects policies by international financial institutions have had on the economies of the community.

The Deputy Premier is accompanied by Mr. Ronlee James, Executive Director in Office of the Premier and Ms. Bernadya Smith, Executive Administrator, Border Control & Employment.
