Providenciales, Turks and Caicos – February 12, 2018 – Turks and Caicos Police are today reveling a double digit drop in criminal activity but have essentially promised that they will not let it get to their heads, recognizing that the spike in armed offenses in Blue Hills two weekends ago is cause for concern.

Police Commissioner, James Smith said in a statement today that crimes recorded for October, November and December of 2017 numbered 426, down from 667 in the same period the year before – a decrease of 36%.

“In that period, we have detected 28% of reported crimes, up from 22% for the same period” the year before.

Commissioner Smith said the data reveals that from April to December, there were 1,756 crimes recorded, which is 279 less crimes than the year before, with an even bigger drop over 2015-2016, by 582.

Police information shows a 14% decrease in crime for 2017-2018 so far, despite 2017 being one of the most internationally scathing for the islands when it came to criminal activity and guests to the country.

It was explained that patterns are being monitored and that offenders are being sought to be brought to justice.  While the raw data continues to not be provided by the Royal Turks and Caicos Police, with a clearer picture of types of crime and how each island is performing individually, Magnetic Media did learn that on average the Turks and Caicos is recording five crimes per day, which is half the amount of crime reported daily when compared to two years ago.
