Providenciales, Turks and Caicos – November 29, 2017 – December 1 is World Aids Day – everywhere and in the Turks and Caicos there are several events planned to mark the near 30 year old global commemoration.

The Turks and Caicos Aids Awareness Foundation will hold a breakfast tomorrow at Hemingway’s Restaurant from 9 am.  The TCAAF is calling it a cause to champion the rights of people living with AIDS in the Turks and Caicos.  Supporters are asked to wear red.  The TCAAF is still beaming from the fantastic support which resulted in a significant donation to the increasingly popular Edward Gartland Youth Center in down town Providenciales.

The “Turf & Surf” fundraising event, sponsored by PwC and Opus, resulted in approximately $40,000 being donated to the Turks & Caicos AIDS Awareness Foundation (TCAAF) for the Edward Gartland Youth Centre. The TCAAF explains that the “Youth Centre lets us reach a key demographic to increase awareness and education – …not only about HIV/AIDS but about all kinds of life skills while also providing them with a safe, fun environment to meet friends, receive counseling and develop new skills.”

A wide cross section turned out for the dinner event featuring the Turks and Caicos Derby sponsored by PwC where fifty percent of the proceeds were donated to the Center.  Barrie Cooke picked the winning horse, coincidentally named, The Winner in a Calcutta style auction of horses, where winning bidders name their horses.  It was held at the Opus.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has since the start of the week been conducting HIV testing; today the team will be in Five Cays and tomorrow it’s the Bight. public is invited to paint the Turks and Caicos Red, wearing red and uniting to show support at a Round Table discussion on HIV Aids to be held at the HJ Robinson High in Grand Turk says Health and Human Services.  The theme this year for World Aids Day is My Health, My Right.
