Duty Free furniture til Dec 31 for Turks and Caicos storm struck, says Premier

GRAND TURK, Turks and Caicos Islands – November 3, 2017 – Residents will now be able to replace furniture lost in the hurricanes with a big tax break, a new exigency has been effected and it lasts until the end of the year.

It means more concessions for islanders and comes from the Finance and Customs Department Minister, Premier Sharlene Robinson.  The TCIG notice said, items exempted include: “sofa, love seat, accent chair, cocktail table, sofa table, end table, bed frame, bed headboard, bed footboard, dinning room tables, dinning room chairs, matresses, box springs, dresser drawer and mirror, night stands, chest of drawers, televisions (one per importer/declarant), refrigerator, stove, microwave and ceiling fans.”

The Collector of Customs will take the applications from those who have suffered loss during the passage of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, and there will have to proof of your losses to tap into the very special concession.

The Premier said, “I know that this is a welcomed initiative and as we continue to monitor our financial position, we will make decisions that we deem prudent and in the best interest of our people.”
