Coral Harbour Base, 14 July (RBDF) – The beaming faces of families, friends and well-wishers at the Golden Gates Shopping Plaza could not hide as seventy-seven (77) sons and daughters of the soil prepared themselves to be infiltrated into the Royal Bahamas Defence Force on July 9th.

Shouts of joy and congratulations could be heard from the large gathering that were present to witness this latest group of future Marines being ushered in for a lifetime changing experience. As final hugs and kisses were exchanged between them and their families, it was now on to the Defence Force Base.

The squad, which comprises New Entry 54 and Woman Entry 23, will commence training at HMBS Coral Harbour Base for the duration of four months. This basic training is intended for the young men and women to be absorbed into its military culture and to be taught the various professional, academic and physical disciplines of the Defence Force.

The training is designed to develop the discipline, teamwork and leadership skills of recruits. This ensures that they are transformed into capable marines who are better equipped in the fight to protect the sovereignty of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
