PM attends Seventh Summit for Heads of State for ACS

Trinidad, June 2, 2016 – The Prime Minister, Dr the Honourable Keith Rowley leaves tomorrow (Friday 3rd June 2016) for Havana, Cuba, to attend the Seventh Summit (VII Summit) of Heads of State and/or Government of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS). The Summit takes place from June 2nd- 4th 2016. In Cuba, the Heads will engage in discussion on the challenges of sustainable development, climate change and peace in the Region. Focus will also be placed on the on-going process of harmonisation and the deepening of relations between Cuba and the United States.

Trinidad and Tobago’s participation in the VII Summit also presents a favourable opportunity for this country to solidify existing relations and foster increased co-operation with countries in the Greater Caribbean, in areas such as air connectivity and trade relations. In particular, the Summit offers additional avenues for Trinidad and Tobago to deepen its relationship with Cuba with regard to trade and investment opportunities.
During Dr Rowley’s attendance at the Summit, the Honourable Colm Imbert will act as Prime Minister. Dr Rowley returned to Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday June 5th 2016.
