GOVERNOR WELCOMES ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL GRAND TURK FISHING TOURNAMENT

The Governor, Peter Beckingham, and his wife Jill took part in all three days’ activities for the Grand Turk Fishing Tournament on 3-5 June. Speaking to the winners and all the participants on the final evening on Governor’s Beach he said:
“From the frenetic bidding for boats at the first evening’s Calcutta to the escalating competition for the great trawl of fish on both days, this has been another  successful event for Grand Turk and Turks and Caicos Islands. It’s a particular attraction to see both local and expatriate communities, including from Provo, joining together from the Friday evening drinks to the award presentations on the Sunday.
“I would especially like to thank all the sponsors, without whose support the event simply would not have been possible, and who helped to generate such a big sum for the Community College. We must also not overlook, and indeed should  give special thanks to, the members of the Fishing Tournament Committee. An event like this doesn’t happen without a huge amount of backroom work, and everyone in Grand Turk should be appreciative of the Committee’s sterling contribution again this year.
“I hope the event continues for many years, now it has been so successfully re-instated after a gap, and grows  from strength to strength.”
