CARPHA Health & Research Conference Officially Opens

Zika Virus talks will lead discussions today at the 61stCARPHA Health and Research conference, the longest running conference in the Caribbean and Latin America, which is now officially open. 
 
What a night, Turks and Caicos culture was showcased at the ceremony where remarks came from the Permanent Secretary of Health, Wesley Clerveaux; the Chief Medical Officer, Dr Nadia Astwood; the country’s health Minister and Premier, Dr Rufus Ewing and Executive Director of CARPHA, Dr. James Hospedales.
 
Our children featured prominently and appropriately, as this year the theme is Family Health, Living Healthy at all ages.  The opening, held poolside in the French Village of Beaches Resort, saw the parade of the flags of nations performed by the Cadets, poetry from brilliant little Panthea Lightbourne, Song & Dance by the Youth Explosion winners, Wesleyan Methodist School and ripsaw music with Full Force Band.  Marlin Award winner, Robin Hinds opened with the national anthem and the national song.
 
There are 200 delegates representing 17 countries at the CARPHA Conference.
