A team from the University of the West Indies has been contacted to help the Turks and Caicos remove the MV Mega One Triton from Grand Turk waters; the thing is the team which has the capability is busy and the wait for their service could be long.

Minister responsible, Hon Porsha Smith in a one on one with Magnetic Media explained that government originally thought there would be no cost to remove the vessel but the administration is now learning that the payment to get rid of the potentially toxic eyesore grounded on Governor’s Beach since Super Storm Sandy in 2013, will actually need millions of dollars to be removed.

The PNP Government is often criticized for the slow action on removing the boat from what is the country’s dive capital.  Minister Smith said while the case against the owners and operators of the Mega One Triton is over, there was no financial recompense to the Turks and Caicos.

Mega One Triton had been anchored off Governor’s Beach in October 2013 when record breaking surges from Sandy wrecked the vessel; it had been delivering building supplies to the TCI from the Dominican Republic for some 20 years.
