Stronger strategy skills are what Disaster Management Executives now have following a recent CDEMA meeting held in Barbados.

The Caribbean Development Bank sponsored session focused on proposal writing, drought management, exercise design and scenario planning.

The group at that Caribbean Disaster Management Agency meeting will find that this new knowledge will enhance their abilities to get financing from institutions like the CDB.

The group also received a report on examining the role of social media in the Management of Emergency Events; Status of Preparedness for the 2016 Hurricane Season and a year in review of emergencies in the region for 2014-2015.

It was said by Rikardia Pardo, Deputy Director of the Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies (DDME) for the TCI that the approaches discussed at this year’s meeting will provide preparedness, mitigation and response mechanisms, which will support the effort of building a disaster resilient nation.

This was the 7th meeting of this sort for CDEMA countries; it was held April 18-22, 2016.
