Right Excellent JAGS Memorial focused on ‘Oneness’

This coming holiday weekend will be epic; it is the first time National Heroes Day will be celebrated in honor of James Alexander George Smith McCartney or JAGS as The RightExcellent JAGS. 
 
A decision made with the advent of the TCI National Awards, which last year outlined that from now on JAGS, would posthumously hold the Most Excellent title. 
 
The public holiday on Monday will continue to see tradition upheld, as the National Honours & Awards Committee hosts the memorial at the National Memorial Park on Old Airport Road in Grand Turk, where guest speaker will be Reverend Bradley Handfield. 
 
The service, which is at 10am, Monday May 30, 2016 has as its the theme:  The Power of Oneness and will also see the ceremonial laying of the wreath for The Most Excellent JAGS, who is the country’s first and only national hero. 
 
James Alexander George Smith McCartney is the TCIs first Chief Minister, who literally fought to see the introduction of representative, ministerial government as the leader and a founder of the People’s Democratic Movement.  Incidentally, the Turks and Caicos, this year marks 40 years since indigenous Cabinet Ministers were introduced as a part of government. 
 
On Monday, at the Palms Resort there will also be an Art Exhibition held in memory of the Most Excellent JAGS.  Canvassing his legacy is hosted by the Culture Departmenton Monday evening.
