Baha Mar and the talks of Chinese individuals being granted favored Bahamian immigration status is once again a huge topic of discussion. It has been rumored that Prime Minister of The Bahamas The Right Honorable Perry Christie is set to award 500 hundred Bahamian citizenship status to Chinese investors in connection with the Baha Mar Project.
Yesterday’s statement was issued to media houses throughout the country and it stated that Prime Minister Christie denied those allegations. He said “It’s an absolute lie.” He further noted that the “Bahamian citizenship is not for sale at any time at any price to anybody. This is a non-negotiable position of my government. Moreover, it is for me personally, a matter upon which no compromise is possible.”
In 2010 it was said prior to this report that a negotiation between CEXIM Bank and Baha Mar both made demands to The Government of the Bahamas to have provided 8,150 work permits to Chinese laborer workers who were solely designated to work on the core project of The Baha Mar development.
Today the project is at a standstill due to litigation and neither party has reached an agreement nor has the hotel acquire any potential buyers.
Prime Minister Christie expressed dislike to the rumors circulating on social and electronic media and said he will be addressing this during his say to the budget debate in the House of Assembly later this week in a more comprehensive term regarding to the misleading information.
