Government has authorized several environmental impact studies as the country braces for transformations to the Grand Turk and Providenciales ports.
During Cabinet meeting last Thursday, there was approval for the plan to upgrade the facilities in the two leading island economies of the TCI following what was described as a presentation on the Port Redevelopment Plan by the Ports Authority.
EIAs or those Environmental Impact Assessments will be carried out in both islands and the procurement process is activated for the studies which will test the viability and safety of a roll on, roll off ramp in GT and for excavation and dredging to create deeper water for docking and a turning circle of 300ft for South Dock, here in Provo.
Cabinet heard more on the schedule for the proposed dredging and landslide capital works. Also at Cabinet, the Turks and Caicos will renew its insurance with the Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility, CCRIF to give coverage over the upcoming Atlantic Hurricane Season.
Approval was given to Health & Human Services to formalize the TCI’s relationship with CARPHA; the Caribbean Public Health Agency.
