Customs recalls Amnesty, storage fees unchanged

Two days after declaring an amnesty on storage fees, Customs is recalling the announcement.

Customs Department issued another release Wednesday about the merchandise stored in their warehouses but it is not what many may want to hear.

Customs has actually retracted its amnesty on storage fees; saying no longer will they allow people to get their goods without paying the monies owed on storage.

“Kindly note that this notice is retracted. There will be no reduction in storage fees until the Legislation is amended to affect this and the public will be notified once these changes take effect.”

Apparently there is an overwhelming amount of goods at the storage sites in both Provo and Grand Turk; reportedly brought on by hiked rates in 2011, up by 300%.

Again, Customs has cancelled their amnesty… at least for now.
