PDM Leader sends Women’s Day Greeting

Providenciales, 11 Mar 2016 – In several languages to say ‘you go girl’ the leader of the Opposition, Sharlene Robinson commemorated International Women’s Day.

Hon Robinson, the first female leader of the People’s Democratic Movement spoke of the dynamism of women, saying and I quote: “Let us make no mistake whether we are in the Board Room or stay at home moms, we are destined to birth and shape this world.”

International Women’s Day is born of women fighting for proper rights in the work world and this continues to be elusive for even big nations like the US and in countries nearby like the Bahamas where a Summer referendum proposes to level the playing field – constitutionally – between men and women.

Robinson said this, on the matter of equality… “Always remember, let your work speak for you and let that alone propel you forward. There will never be a need to engage in less than classy tactics to claw your way through. Hard work will always pay off, just be patient.”

Robinson hailed her mother and grandmother in the remarks as well. The country spends over a week celebrating women… in North and Middle Caicos this morning, there was a prayer breakfast and tomorrow Providenciales will see a Health Fair focus on women in the health care industry.

The health fair is at the Gus Lightbourne Gym.

The TCI is a unique jurisdiction where the Deputy Governor, the Deputy Premier, Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, the Leader of the Opposition, two Government Ministers, most of the Permanent Secretaries and the Human Rights Commissioner are all women.
