Jitney row on social media elicits warning from PDM Leader

Providenciales, 11 Mar 2016 – The PDM Leader says she is concerned about reports that front desk clerks may be calling illegal jitney drivers to give taxi rides to tourists… if this is true, Hon Sharlene Robinson says it ought to stop.

The comments come in the aftermath of another shameful video making social media rounds and exposing a violent row between a Taxi Driver and Jitney Driver. Robinson charged the PNP Administration with continuing to ignore the problem of illegal jitneys. “Taxi drivers who are legal road users and have to pay for licenses, TCIAA fees, NHIP and NIB should not have to compete with illegal public transportation. The Government must see how unfair this is and how frustrating this is and is becoming.”

There was a call from Robinson for legal, safe public transportation.
