Providenciales, 22 Feb 2016 – Former, embattled Premier Michael Eugene Misick on Saturday announced that he will re-enter frontline politics and run on the PNP ticket for North and Middle Caicos Electoral District; that’s if the branch members want him.
Misick used his Facebook page to make his interest known, and while it may come as a surprise to some, Misick had never hid that he was still interested in being a part of active political life. Hundreds have liked the announcement and others have commented encouraging words, one even saying: “Happy Independence.”
It is not a certainty that Misick will indeed run on the PNP ticket for the seat, which is currently held by PNP Member of Parliament, his nephew and the Border Control and Employment Minister, Donhue Gardiner.
First the district’s delegates have to agree to him being the nominee, then his party executives have to ratify him. None of that has happened as yet.
Add to this dynamic, there is the glaring fact that Misick is in a battle for his freedom with the scathing SIPT trial ongoing and expected to last some 18 months. The Crown alleges Michael Misick, as the then representative for North Caicos East constituency, Chief Minister and Premier over a period of six years, allegedly stole $28 million from the TCI public.
Still Michael Misick on his FB page, in revealing his intent for the upcoming General Elections, said: “I seek God Blessing and Favor as we continue the struggle to Free our people from colonial Rule and lead them into true Progress and Prosperity!!!!!”
There is nothing in TCI law which prevents Michael Misick from becoming a candidate. Mike, as he often called, told Magnetic Media last night, “I am a man of great faith. We are all innocent until proven guilty. Under the constitution, only a conviction bars a citizen from running for office.”
