Unqualified Applicants, 75% cannot vote in TCI Use file photo of the lines at registration

Providenciales, 21Dec 2015 – Nearly 75% of the people who registered to vote up to November 30 were not eligible says the Elections Supervisor, Dudley Lewis.

A whopping 1,376 men and women who cannot vote in the next General Election turned in documents in the hopes of being able to do so.

The Elections Supervisor in an update said there was a drastic increase in number of applications and for this he was glad, but the disappointment came when Lewis realized that, and I quote, “…the number of persons who applied to be added to the register and were not eligible because they were not in possession of a Turks and Caicos Islander or Belonger Status…” was high.

Not only are these 743 men and 633 women ineligible, they have not even so much as applied to become Turks and Caicos citizens according to Mr. Lewis.

This underscores the confusion Magnetic Media reported upon during the independent voter registration drives; the one launched lastly drawing many apparent Haitians who told us that they thought they could register for the election and citizenship at the same time and be successful.
