Providenciales, 21 Dec 2015 – An official warning comes now from the Ministry of Health and Human services as the Zika virus gains notoriety in the region.

Ministry officials say CARPHA has confirmed five cases in the Caribbean, including in the Dominican Republic but the Turks and Caicos remains and is Zika-free.

In a media release it is advised that we all do all that we can to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes as Chikungunya and Dengue are both still sporadically occurring; the same Aedes aegypti mosquito is responsible for spreading this new threat to health.

It was explained that the Environmental Health Department has beefed up fogging and residents are encouraged to contact EHD if there are large areas of water in need of anti-mosquito treatment.
