Providenciales, 20 Nov 2015 – When the Cabinet met this week, there were some weighty decisions made despite the absence of Premier Hon Dr Rufus Ewing and Governor Peter Beckingham.
Media in the debriefing notes learned that a UK hired consultant agrees with much of the general public, that the procedures for work permits need to be overhauled.
It was explained that Ian Jones a UK Consultant on the assessment of the Ministry of Border Control determined there must be more and better training and that the work permit process has to be made more time efficient. The TCI is also now a step closer to legislating stringent penalties for the protection of women and children when it comes to sex crimes and trafficking.
Cabinet approved the Trafficking in Persons (Prevention) Bill 2015 as a measure to implementing the UN Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons.
The Deputy Governor, Anya Williams who chaired the session and Cabinet Ministers approved for the Bill to be submitted at the next meeting of the House of Assembly.
